Guide To The Perfect Ring

Step 1: What’s Your Budget

The first step when buying jewelry is to establish a budget. With all the conflicting ideas around what’s the right budget to buy an engagement ring, this step can get overwhelming. The jewelry consultants here at F.A.O. Jewelers can help you find the best budget for your situation.

Step 2: Stone & Shape

The next step in the F.A.O. Jewelers’ process is to choose the right stone & shape for your piece of jewelry. With a huge selection of premium diamonds, both natural and lab-grown, and precious gemstones like sapphires, emeralds, rubies, morganite, and more, F.A.O. Jewelers can help find the right stone for you.

Step 3: The 4C’s of Buying a Diamond

Color – To better classify and rate the different colors of diamonds, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) came up with a standardized scale based on letter grades. The scale goes from D, completely flawless and colorless, to Z, yellow/brown color.

Clarity – This refers to the number of flaws inside (inclusions) and outside (blemishes) the diamond. Just like the color scale, the clarity of a diamond falls within its own scale, from FL (flawless) to I (included).

Cut – Not to be confused with the shape, the cut is what really determines the beauty and allure of your diamond. The quality of the cut of a diamond is determined by three important traits: brightness, fire, and scintillation.

Carat – The carat of a diamond refers to the weight of the diamond and is not to be mistaken with karat, in reference to the purity of gold. As the carats go up, so too does the value of the diamond.

Step 4: Metal color & Setting

To complete the look of your new engagement ring, we’ll need to find the right metal and style for your setting. There are so many options to choose from, it really comes down to what looks best to you. The experts here at F.A.O. Jewelers will be your guide, showing you the different options and styles to help you make the best choice for your engagement ring.

Step 5: Financing & Insurance

The final steps when buying an engagement ring at F.A.O. Jewelers are financing and insuring your purchase. With financing options available, we can work out the perfect payment plan for your situation. Insuring your engagement ring ensures this important piece of jewelry stays protected over the years.
